When it comes to choosing highlighters, blushes, foundations and eyeshadows it can be tricky business trying to sort through the hype.

But now a consumer website, Sitejabber, can help following an announcement it has uncovered the most-loved beauty brand by millions of makeup fans.

To determine which brand was considered the ‘holy grail’ among users on the r/MakeupAddiction Reddit thread, Sitejabber analysed over 11,000 comments and images.

After crunching the numbers, it revealed NYX Professional Makeup as the top product for the most-mentioned eye, lip, and skin formulations across the site.

NYX Professional Makeup, which is sold in Priceline stores throughout Australia, offers a line of beauty products which feature rich pigments, long-lasting formulas and an array of on-trend colours.

The Best Anti-Aging Ingredient for Smoothing Wrinkles, According to Rodial’s Founder

The Best Anti-Aging Ingredient for Smoothing Wrinkles, According to Rodial’s Founder

Maria Hatzistefanis might have created products called “Dragon’s Blood” and “Snake Serum,” but the Rodial and Nip+Fab founder’s all-time favorite anti-aging ingredient actually doesn’t sound like it’s from Harry Potter. When it comes to smoothing our fine lines and wrinkles and delaying the signs of aging from popping up sooner than they have to, the beauty entrepreneur turns to retinol.

It makes sense, considering that’s one of the star ingredients in Rodial’s latest skincare collection, Rodial Booster Drops. Despite retinol being one of the most powerful anti-aging ingredients out there, learning how to properly incorporate it into your routine can be intimidating. Hatzistefanis also knew that her customers were interested in retinol, so she created a retinol-based booster designed to add to any step of your skincare routine.

Here, we chatted with Hatzistefanis about her start in beauty, her new podcast, and the Rodial best-sellers totally worth buying.

Tell us about how you got your start in beauty.

I started off as a beauty writer before completely switching careers and moving into banking! I found my way back to beauty when I decided to launch my own brand. I think that people assume that you can only pick one job or industry and that’s where you have to stay, but my journey really proves that’s not true.

Why did you decide to start Rodial?

I saw a gap in the market for a hi-tech, fast acting brand that would offer real, fast, and effective results. Back when I started Rodial, all of the skincare products on the market were super basic, I wanted to make skincare more active with fun names and packaging. I started Rodial with just skincare, but four years ago, we added a makeup collection that has been very successful and we are now rolling out with Bluemercury in the U.S.

What’s the best-selling product? And why do you think that is?

The Dragons Blood Sculpting Gel is our global best-seller, and has been since the day it launched. It is a plumping gel infused with hyaluronic acid and dragons blood [a skincare ingredient derived from Croton Lechleri tree] and works to plump and add volume to the skin contours. This is the only kind of this product in the market. For makeup, the Rodial Banana Powder is the best-seller by far. It’s a finishing powder with a slight yellow tone that gives light and luminosity to the skin and an 8-hour sleep look. It’s also my personal favorite.

You recently created your Rodial Booster Drops. We’re super excited about the retinol and collagen boosters. What does each do and how long do you have to use them to see the results?

Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A, and is included in many skincare products due to its amazing benefits for the skin. Retinol works to do a variety of things to the skin, including reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, fading dark spots and hyperpigmentation, and increases cell turnover while stimulating collagen and elastin production. You would only use the Rodial Retinol Booster Drops three to four times a week. Retinol is a strong ingredient on the skin, so you would not use it every day. You will see the results of using the Retinol Booster from two to four weeks after using consistently. The 30 percent Collagen Complex is a replenishing concentrate designed to support skin renewal and target multiple signs of visible aging. This strong, active protein re-densifies the complexion, aids skin elasticity, and prevents the visible formation of wrinkles to reveal a visibly hydrated, plump complexion.

What’s the biggest misconception you think people have about retinol?

People think that the results from using retinol are instant, which is not the case. To get the best results out of using retinol you need to be consistent, however retinol works to really smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, and the results are very impressive!

Tell us about your podcast. What’s it all about?

R. Kelly, Kevin Spacey, Louis CK: How pretending to be bad boys helped them get away with being bad men

R. Kelly, Kevin Spacey, Louis CK: How pretending to be bad boys helped them get away with being bad men

The Nantucket courtroom in which Kevin Spacey was arraigned was a real courtroom, not a Hollywood set: instead of a dramatic mahogany judge’s bench, it had a plastic laminate desk. Instead of a coiffed character in costume, it had a 59-year-old man – puffy and pasty without the benefit of a makeup department – who responded to his given name of Kevin Fowler as he pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a busboy in 2016.

The job of a performer, of course, is to perform. To create a persona in which the audience invests itself. One, for example, like Spacey’s Frank Underwood from House of Cards – an oozy reptile whom viewers nevertheless root for. Not because they like him, but because they want to see how he’ll slither out of his latest jam.

Recently, it’s seemed as if Spacey wanted us to conflate him with his most famous character. On Christmas Eve he posted a bizarre video, titled “Let Me Be Frank,” in which he implored the viewer in Underwood’s molasses accent, “I showed you exactly what people are capable of … I challenged you and made you think.” Was Spacey referring to the assault allegations against him, the actor? To his murderous on-screen alter ego, Frank? The answer seemed to be, both. It was the opposite of a celebrity asking us to separate the art from the artist. He was begging us to accept the two as symbiotic.

Comedian Louis C.K. whose recent stand-up material includes apparently mocking students-turned-activists from the Parkland, Florida school shooting.

We’re currently muddling through Chapter 2 in the #MeToo story: the chapter in which we decide who to punish and how, who gets a comeback and what it looks like. And what I keep thinking of is how these bad men are still creating performances. How they were always creating performances. How we, their audience, weaved their public personas with their private misdeeds until the lines between real and not real were all mixed up.

Louis CK has been testing out new material recently, which is making headlines for its crudeness: jokes about Parkland survivors, jokes about transgender teens.

But then, his set was always based on crudeness. It was based, explicitly, on the kind of crudeness it later turned out he was actually engaging in, which was masturbating in front of stunned women. He joked about “spraying the world with his (semen.)” He joked about showing strangers his penis. He joked about the shame of it all, the compulsion.

We’re very forgiving of geniuses and their compulsions. We expect brilliance to be accompanied by neuroses. Howard Hughes and his shoeboxes. Beethoven, who refused to wash his clothes to the point that well-meaning friends would steal them while he slept. As a culture, we’re accepting of all of that, so long as we believe the true demons are being worked out on the page or the screen and what we’re seeing is a persona.

Singer R. Kelly is the subject of a new documentary detailing allegations of sexual abuse, including imprisoning women.

Last weekend, American TV network Lifetime aired a multi-part documentary, Surviving R. Kelly, a six-hour dissection of the singer’s alleged crimes and misdeeds.

The documentary is an indictment of him, but even more, an indictment of our own willful blindness. Throughout his career, Kelly did such a convincing job pretending to play an R&B bad boy – a cheeky commentary on music culture – that it apparently took years for it to sink in that, in real life, he actually was a very bad man.

In concert venues, he pretended to cage a woman on stage. Then he went home to mansions where he’d actually imprisoned women, allegedly, starving them for days and forcing them to ask permission before using the bathroom. He produced singer Aaliyah’s first album, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number, in which a teenage girl fantasizes about an older man. Then he married Aaliyah in real life, obtaining forged documents to make her appear 18, not 15 as she actually was.

He hadn’t been coy about his proclivities; he’d been screaming them. He hadn’t been a wolf in sheep’s clothing; he’d been a wolf in a wolf costume, convincing everyone that there was really a sheep inside.

On Christmas Eve, Spacey released a video titled

Nicole Harnishfeger

On Christmas Eve, Spacey released a video titled “Let Me Be Frank” in which appears to conflate himself and his on-screen alter ego.

And so, for more than a decade, he allegedly got away with it. He had the assistance of a complicit staff and he had the assistance of a complicit public – journalists, pundits and regular people who heard about a video featuring Kelly urinating on a 14-year-old and lined up on street corners to buy bootlegged VHS copies. Child pornography was rebranded as a “sex tape,” and marketed as another installment in the outre R. Kelly narrative.

Next time there’s a performer with R. Kelly’s lyrics, or Louis CK’s set, I hope we’ll ask ourselves to be more discerning. Is this person making a commentary on outrageous behaviours? Or is this person in fact behaving outrageously?

Now, it’s time to do what we should have done all along: Treat them not as characters, whose lives we consume for our own sense of drama, but as sad, damaged humans. Not the lewd genius R. Kelly, but Robert, the desperate tyrant who has threatened to “expose” his accusers in an attempt to regain control of his narrative. Not Louis, the introspective based-on-real-life television protagonist, but Louis C.K., who apparently wasn’t telling jokes but confessions.

Not Kevin Spacey but Kevin Fowler. Sallow and tired and ordinary-looking in a Massachusetts courtroom as he scheduled his next court date and waited to see whether he’d go to jail.
