YouTube launches long-overdue Fashion section

YouTube today launched its Fashion section, a new vertical alongside the likes of Gaming and Movies, crystallizing the importance of its massive beauty community. It’s also a convenient landing portal for some of YouTube‘s most advertiser-friendly content.

According to the introductory video, the section is intended to be “the ultimate destination for style content that bridges both our fabulous endemic creator community and the more traditional worlds of fashion and beauty.” Thus, as you’d expect, you’ll find the videos from the official channels of big-name brands (at the time of writing, the main feature of YouTube fashion is a series of runway videos from the likes of Prada, Dior, and Oscar de la Renta).

You can find a link to the new section nested under “More From YouTube” alongside the reintegrated YouTube Gaming.

For those of you who might not be aware, YouTube‘s collection of beauty-oriented content creators (the so-called “beauty gurus”) is so vast as to be nearly oversaturated. In my opinion, no collection of random people on the internet has better earned the name “influencer.”

The upside of this section — besides the obvious of shedding light on some of its creators — is that now YouTube‘s got some of its more palatable content in one spot. Beauty content has got to be some of the easiest to offer to Google’s advertisers — the content is family-friendly without being child-targeted, and most creators speak to a youthful and robust demographic. If I were selling anything from a car to a novelty keychain, I’d be tripping over myself to advertise my product on their videos.

By putting the videos on their own section, YouTube‘s simultaneously making it easier for viewers to find their content, thereby boosting potential views on advertiser-friendly videos, but it’s also symbolically raising it to the prestige level of YouTube’s Gaming section. The Fashion section’s also probably going to provide YouTube with a convenient place to launch its countermeasures against Instagram, its primary rival for beauty gurus’ attention.

One thing I find kind of curious: the vertical is called “Fashion,” but also includes makeup videos. Call me simple, but I think the whole section should have been called “Beauty,” since that seems like the more encompassing of the possible terms. Still, at the moment fashion still seems to be the primary focus, with all the closet tours and sharp dressing tips, so what do I know?

Netflix Sets Title for ‘Haunting of Hill House’ Season 2 – Which Is Definitely Not About Hill House (Video)

Netflix Sets Title for ‘Haunting of Hill House’ Season 2 – Which Is Definitely Not About Hill House (Video)

Welp, we now know where Netflix is going to be haunting you next and it’s definitely not Hill House.

On Thursday, news broke Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy had signed a multi-year overall TV deal with the streamer and that their surprise hit series, “The Haunting of Hill House,” had been renewed for a second season. Now labeled an anthology series, “The Haunting” Season 2 will feature “a new story with all new characters” and will have “no connection” to Season 1.

Shortly after that announcement, Netflix tweeted a video via the official “Haunting of Hill House” account, along with instructions for users to “listen closely” to the clip to try and “guess” where Season 2 takes place.

And about 40 mins after that, they gave fans the answer with another video and this message: “You guessed it. The HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, a new chapter in the Haunting series based on the works of Henry James, is coming in 2020.”

So yes, Hill House is out and Bly Manor — a setting from Henry James’ horror novella, “The Turn of the Screw” — is in for the second installment, aptly titled, “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”

We can’t say Flanagan didn’t totally warn you this would be the case for Season 2 — which does not yet have a premiere date beyond some time in 2020 — seeing as he flat out said the Crains’ story was over, even if the show was renewed. (Although “Hill House” star Oliver Jackson-Cohen gave TheWrap reason to believe otherwise.)

A modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson’s iconic novel, “The Haunting of Hill House” launched last October on Netflix.

The 10-episode installment centered around the Crain family: father Hugh (older version played by Timothy Hutton, younger version portrayed by Henry Thomas), mother Olivia (Carla Gugino), and their children, Steve (Michiel Huisman), Shirley (Elizabeth Reaser), Theo (Kate Siegel), Luke (Jackson-Cohen) and Nellie (Victoria Pedretti).

The story follows the events that transpired during the one summer the Crains lived in the titular haunted home and their lives decades after leaving Hill House due to a tragic incident.

TheWrap reached out to Netflix to ask if any of the cast members from Season 1 will return for “The Haunting of Bly Manor” as different characters, with a spokesperson for the streamer responding that no casting details are available at this time.

She’s already conquered the world of fashion, and now Victoria Beckham has her sights set on the beauty industry with the arrival of her first makeup range.

The designer, 44, revealed on Wednesday via social media that she will be officially launching Victoria Beckham Beauty later this year.

Fans were beside themselves after VB posted a short video on Instagram last night announcing the launch Victoria Beckham Beauty, tipped for an autumn launch.

The mother-of-four, who splits her time between west London and the Cotswolds, has already enjoyed phenomenal success with two sellout collections in collaboration with Estée Lauder.

Victoria Beckham (pictured at a Vogue dinner in Madrid, January 2018) has announced this week the upcoming launch of her first eponymous beauty range later this year

The former Spice Girl said in a statement this week: ‘I want to take care of women inside and out, providing them with the must-have items in make-up, skincare, fragrance and wellness that I feel I need in my own life.’

And explaining that the range would initially launch as a digital brand, she added: ‘I was going direct to the consumer with regards to fashion before I had a standalone store, so this isn’t new to me.

‘Just like I spend so much time in the fitting room getting to know what my customers want to wear, I’m going to be asking women to tell me which products they want me to develop for them in the beauty and wellness arenas. It’s important for me to know what they want.’

Victoria is an avid beauty fan, and once told Vogue that the secret to her flawless skin is eating bee pollen and taking a mind-boggling 60 vitamins and tablets per day.

Big news: The designer, 44, revealed on Wednesday via social media that she will be officially launching Victoria Beckham Beauty later this year, much to her fans’ delight

Mixed response: Fans were delighted at the news, with many saying they ‘couldn’t wait’ to get their hands on the range when it goes on sale, but other raised concerns over pricing

Mrs Beckham (pictured in London in September) recently announced she would be dropping exotic skins from her fashion range much to the delight of animal campaigners

Fans were delighted at the news, with many saying they ‘couldn’t wait’ to get their hands on the range when it goes on sale.

However, others were concerned about the price tag – Mrs. Beckham’s clothing range costs upwards of £400 for a dress – and begged her to make her beauty range more affordable.

Charley tweeted: ‘I love your clothes and I love your style but it’s so expensive.’

Another wrote: ‘Unfortunately I will be excluded from this along with every other thing you design because I want to but although I work very hard my finances will never stretch to afford [it].’

Victoria launched her own clothing label in 2008, winning over famous fans from Sienna Miller to the Duchess of Sussex, and this week delighted animal campaigners with the news she would be dropping exotic skins from her collections.

mac glitter tripper
Sparklin’ on this spectacular Saturday!

Happy last Caturday of 2018, babe! As I type this, I’m happy to report that I’m wearing the first beauty product my face has touched since Christmas Eve. (It’s Hourglass Lip Oil, in case you’re wondering.) I’m finally getting over the most recent of three back-to-back colds, and this last one kicked my butt so hard that I haven’t even wanted so shower (and you know how I feel about showering).

Fingers and toes crossed that I make it at least a week without coming down with something new!

I hope you’ve been able to stay healthy and relatively snot-free lately, because not only is a stuffy nose hella annoying; it also gets in the way of good stuff, like wearing glitter.

Which reminds me…

MAC has a new glitter collection out called Glitter Tripper (that’s a few of the pieces up at the top), and I’m 100% looking forward to wearing some of it this weekend, because we’re celebrating my mom’s 70th birthday! 🎂 My bro and I are taking her out for a spa day in Napa today, and tomorrow we’re all having lunch in the city. It’s a par-tay weekend, woo-hoo!

On that glittering note, here are some stories that caught my eye this week…

Exercise trends throughout the decades

Did you ever grow anything in the garden of your mind?

All I have to say is WHO DIDN’T HAVE A CRUSH ON KEANU?

A live version of one of my favorite ’90s dance songs…

So how are you spending the last weekend of 2018? Whatever you’re doing, I hope you’re doing well, friend.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
