At 32, she arrived in the United States by way of communist Romania, unable to speak English. Thirty years later, after tending the brows of Amal Clooney and Oprah — in addition to building a multibillion-dollar beauty brand, Anastasia Beverly Hills — Anastasia Soare adjourns to a bathroom with a view and welcomes Allure into the marble-blanketed chamber.
It should come as no surprise that someone whose beautifying skills have been trusted by so many clients does her own hair and makeup in this glamorous space each morning. “I spend a lot of time here, at least in the morning,” she tells Allure of her bathroom. Then, motioning toward her long, blonde waves, “I do my hair and makeup every day like I’m going to a party.”
Sometimes, an actual one-person party takes place right in her own bathtub. You can find it beside a floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the lush view. “When I’m in the bathtub, I could have my champagne here and my caviar, just to be glamorous enough,” she says. Unapologetic about the indulgence, “I work really hard and I deserve everything,” she adds.
Although Soare says she doesn’t do a beauty routine in the tub, it’s not far from her stash of products. Organized by type, her drawers under the sink are immaculately filled with makeup, skin care, hair tools, and styling products. “I don’t like to see mess,” Soare says.
The products she does want to see, however, are placed on Hermès trays. She often switches up serums and lipstick shades, but Soare is committed to a single scent displayed on one of the orange trays. “For fragrance, I only wear Portrait of a Lady by Frédéric Malle. People at work know I’m there when they smell it,” she reveals. “I don’t wear Chanel, but I think it looks so chic in the bathroom.”
Needless to say, Soare makes exceptions for her Anastasia Beverly Hills products — not only because she loves using her own brand but because she also insists on testing new creations. “This is the place where the magic sometimes happens. I get all the products and I have to approve samples,” she says. “I have to try it myself. It’s the ultimate test.”
